Reach The Beach!

… Months of training …

… Riding through the winter …

… Overcoming anxieties – hills, spandex & clipless pedals …

… Sticking with it when you feel like dropping out …

… Mourning the loss of a mother …

…Surviving lung disease and learning to ride again …

These are just a few of the obstacles, barriers and personal challenges our Ride Like A Girl team has overcome in preparation to participate in the 2014 Reach the Beach event. Now, just a few days away, the exciting ride lies ahead. No doubt there are still a few butterflies, probably mixed with excitement and thoughts of  “I just want to get to the beach!”

We all have signed up for different reasons – reasons that became more and more personal as we started sharing with each other about the impact that lung disease has had on us personally and within our families. (Reach the Beach is a fundraiser ride for The American Lung Association). In an effort to tell our story we collected the following photos and videos to share with friends, family, and the general community. Anyone that wants to support us can click here to make a donation.

To each of you riding with me, I hope you enjoy the fruit of your hard work, find joy in the friendships you have forged, and take pride in how far you have come. I will leave you with the words that I heard many of you saying to each other during our many miles of training together, “I know you can do this!”

I am an avid cyclist, passionate about training and encouraging other women to discover the joys of cycling. I believe that if women have a learning environment that feels safe, is fun and includes the support of other women, they will naturally Learn, Laugh and Love it!
